Luscious Libations

Welcome to my Beer Blog. I am Bill Phillips, your beer drinking buddy.

I will be critiquing a different beer each blog, I may also discuss a certain Brewery, Brew Master or specific Brewing Style.

For this installment, my first, I chose one which should be obtainable for most everyone. There will be occasions when I feature a Beer that may not be easily obtained or available in your geographic area, all of them however are obtainable in Avon Colorado, home of Vail-Beaver Creek Magazine and a great beer drinker’s paradise.

To say I like “Hoppy” beers would be an understatement. I chose this one to be my first installment. It is from Stone Brewing Company in Escondido California.

Brewery: Stone Brewing Company

Escondido CA

Stone IPA

Name: Ruination Imperial Pale Ale

Style: American Double/Imperial India Pale Ale

ABV: 7.7%
IBU: 100+
Hops: Magnum & Centennial
BDB Score: B+ (4.25)

Appearance: 4.0
A nice clear copper color, the pour produced about 2 fingers of slightly yellowish foam which dissipated a little too quickly for my taste.

Aroma: 4.5
A very powerful herbaceous grassy pine nose with nice grapefruit notes, orange peel and spices.

Taste: 4.5
The fresh grapefruit, spice and orange peel scent is blended with a perfect peppery, bitter hop finish as the roasted malts gently come up and say “HI”.

Mouth Feel: 4.0
The creamy feel is tempered with the right amount of carbonation. It is well balanced in taste and mouth feel.

Drinkability: 4.5
Fragrant, bitter and delicious. It is definitely in my top 3 Imperial IPA’s

Over the years, I have had enough Ruination to sink a small boat. I love it, but it is definitely for hop-heads only. It is also very strong, great to share with friends.

As a local distributor, I have had the opportunity to meet the owners and brewmaster of Stone Brewery. These guys are very passionate about their craft, doing it seemingly more out of love than money.

Do yourself a favor, and grab this or any of Stone's brews!

Cheers!

Hey I saw your article about trying to get a homebrew club going? I am interested and would like to maybe talk with you a little about that. How can we so that?
